Rambam, a renowned medieval Jewish physician and philosopher, emphasized the connection between physical and spiritual well-being. His principles for healthy living focus on moderation, balance, and mindful eating. He believed that proper digestion and nourishment are essential for maintaining health, preventing disease, and enhancing vitality. In addition to healthy eating, Rambam also advocated for regular physical activity, mental well-being, and adequate rest, recognizing that true health requires a holistic approach. DO NOT overeat.  Quit eating when (or before) you feel satiated.  A full stomach does not allow for a sufficient digestion of protein.  Indigestion of food causes absorption of toxins.

Eat slow, calmly, and chew well.  Take your time with meals, and chew thoroughly. You don’t need to count, but focus on making mindful chewing a habit. This simple act can boost vitamin and mineral absorption, balance your hormones, and aid weight loss while healing your digestive system.

ALWAYS eat vegetables with carbs.  Pair vegetables with carbohydrates to slow down blood sugar spikes. This is especially important for diabetics and pre-diabetics, and it keeps energy levels more stable throughout the day.

Avoid snacking and eat 2-3 proper meals a day.  Eat when hungry and allow your digestive system to rest and heal in between meals.  Snacking can interfere with digestion and prevent your body from healing itself properly.

Avoid eating 3-4 hours before sleep.  Long term, night time eating can disrupt digestion, cause heartburn, constipation, lead to weight gain, and weaken your immune system. It’s best to allow your body time to process food before bedtime.

Eat breakfast when your body is awake and hungry.  Eat breakfast when you’re fully awake, warmed up, and feeling hunger. This ensures your body is ready to digest and use nutrients effectively.

Drink water before or after meals.  Water is best consumed before meals or an hour after. Drinking during meals dilutes stomach acid and slows digestion. Cold drinks can constrict the stomach, delaying the digestive process.
