Hamantaschen are made with ingredients that aren’t always kind to our bodies. By swapping out traditional recipes for more nourishing alternatives, we can still enjoy this sweet tradition—without the post-sugar slump. Enjoy the sweetness—both symbolic and real—and give your family the gift of a healthier celebration.
Dough:
• 3 cups almond flour
• 1 cup tapioca flour
• 1 egg
• 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 70 grams cold butter, cut into cubes
• 1 beaten egg for brushing
Place all the ingredients in a food processor and process until a dough begins to form. Wrap the dough ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
Roll out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper. Make sure it’s not too thin to shape the hamantaschen easily.
Use a cup or cookie cutter to cut out circles of the desired size.
Place about half a teaspoon of filling in the center of each circle.
Fold into a hamantaschen shape and pinch the edges well to seal.
Transfer the hamantaschen onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg.
Bake at 320°F until golden, about 12-15 minutes, depending on your oven.
Halva filling:
• 1/2 cup raw tahini
• 3-4 Tbs honey/maple/silan (choose one).
Mix all ingredients together and taste. Add more sweetener if desired.
